How Billing Works
AssistantRouter uses a subscription + usage billing model:
Subscription
Your subscription tier determines your feature access and limits:
- Number of assistants
- Rate limits (requests per minute)
- Support level
Wallet Credits
Your wallet balance pays for actual API usage:
- Model inference costs (passed through at provider rates)
Your subscription unlocks features and sets limits. Your wallet pays for actual usage. This means you only pay for what you use beyond your subscription.

FAQ
What happens when I run out of wallet credits?
API requests will fail with an insufficient_balance error. You can add credits anytime from the dashboard. We recommend enabling auto-reload to prevent service interruptions.
Can I change plans anytime?
Yes! You can upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time:
- Upgrades take effect immediately, with prorated billing
- Downgrades take effect at the end of your current billing period
What payment methods are accepted?
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) and debit cards through Stripe. Enterprise customers can request invoice billing.
Is there a free trial?
The Hobby tier is free forever with generous limits for development and testing. No credit card required. Pro and Team plans include a 14-day free trial with full access to all features.
Can I get a refund?
We offer a 30-day money-back guarantee on all paid plans. Contact support for assistance.
What counts as a "request"?
Each API call to the /v1/chat/completions endpoint counts as one request, regardless of whether streaming is enabled.
How are tokens counted?
Tokens are counted using the model's native tokenizer. Both input tokens (your messages) and output tokens (the response) are counted toward your wallet usage. Usage is billed from your wallet balance in millicents (1/1000 of a cent).
